07/2010 Robots must appear more convincingly

A forecast for the year 2060: Every third inhabitant will be older than 65: Nursing shortage in Germany! The current figures of the Federal Statistical Office reveal the big challenges the population development in Germany implies. However, help is on its way – by service robots. Within the project "WiMi Care", User Interface Design GmbH (UID) develops and tests robots for nursing care together with research partners. Now, the "little helpers" had to stand the first practical test in a nursing home at Stuttgart.

07/2010 UID is the service company of the year 2010

User Interface Design GmbH (UID) is the service company of the year 2010 of Baden-Württemberg in the category of service innovation. The Minister of Economics Ernst Pfister awarded the prize on July 6, 2010, within the Service Forum at the Haus der Wirtschaft (house of economy) at Stuttgart. 126 companies and cooperations took part in this competition.

06/2010 The person behind the name badge

"Usa-ba-bility Conference" is written next to the button in the elevator, which takes us to the roof terrace of the Bayerischer Hof Hotel. The unique view over the rooftops of Munich makes you forget the spelling mistake. However, it seems like an evidence that time has come to host the international conference of the Usability Professionals‘ Association (UPA) in Germany from May 24 to 28, 2010. And although the location is not a stone's throw away for everybody – as it is for me – about 750 people interested in "usa-ba-bility" and user experience from 45 countries accepted the invitation.

06/2010 Home game: UID contributed to international meeting of usability professionals in Munich

From May 24-28, 2010, Munich was the venue for the international usability scene, hosting the annual International Conference of the Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA). More than 700 experts met to discuss on user experience and design. For the first time, this international event took place outside the US. User Interface Design GmbH (UID) contributed to the conference with lectures, as an exhibitor and sponsor. The activities on the conference reflect the variety of UID - from research projects on Ambient Assisted Living via usability testing methodology to interface design for multitouch.

04/2010 Viva Las Vegas: Heiko Lewandowski attends the MIX10 conference

Las Vegas is regarded as the "Entertainment Capital of the World". Microsoft entertained visitors of the "MIX10" conference which took place there from March 15-17, 2010. From Silverlight 4 to the Windows Phone 7 Series: Software developers and designers from all over the world exchanged information on the brand new topics of the season. Heiko Lewandowski, Head of Software Engineering at UID, takes us to Las Vegas in his travel diary.

11/2009 From Ludwigsburg to Los Angeles – UID wins the Microsoft "Touch First Developer Challenge"

User Interface Design GmbH (UID) wins the "Touch First Developer Challenge" – an international multi-touch competition. Microsoft awards the prize to the interactive point-of-sales application of UID for being the most innovative application for the multi-touch Surface table. This announcement was released on November 19, 2009 at the Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles.

The interactive receiver of the pay TV provider Sky gets a new user interface. On the occasion of the Sky launch in July 2009, the improved user interface is also launched. The interaction concept which is intuitive to operate was designed by the user experience experts of Sky and of User Interface Design GmbH (UID).

05/2009 Enabling software to compete in the international market

How can companies of the capital goods industry enable their software to compete in the international market? The answer to this question is given in the guideline "Software Internationalization" published by VDMA (German Machinery and Plant Manufacturing Association). User Interface Design GmbH (UID) also contributed to this file resulting in a guideline on how to develop software solutions that are internationally applicable.

03/2009 Anniversary boosts UID to record figures in 2008

The 10 year anniversary and a new record result – in 2008, User Interface Design GmbH (UID) had lots of reasons to celebrate. Offering the innovative combination of usability, software and design, UID generated a turnover of 5.6 million euros, an increase of 24 percent - which is the best result since UID was founded. The outlook for the future is optimistic: In spite of the economic crisis, UID expects a positive development for 2009 as well.

01/2009 New International Usability Partners in India and the United States

HumanCentric (United States) and Kern Communications (India) have joined the International Usability Partners (IUP). User Interface Design GmbH (UID) co-founded the IUP in 2006. In just two years the IUP have become a leading global provider of user experience services, covering all five continents with nine full partners and associate partners in more than 30 countries.
